Am I the only one who spent 4 hours pulling a nest out of a flue for a bird that wasn't even there
Got called to a place in Rochester last Tuesday because the homeowner swore a starling was trapped behind the damper, and I ended up pulling out 6 feet of twigs and a fake rubber snake some kid dropped down there. Turned out the chirping was coming from her ringtone, so now I want to know what weird stuff you guys have found stuck in a flue that had nothing to do with the actual problem.
The fake rubber snake got me. Reminds me of how often the real issue turns out to be nothing like what we were told. People call about a bird, turns out it's a ringtone. People call about a leak, turns out it's a cat peeing on the floor vent. Half the job is figuring out what the problem actually is, not the one you got called for. Anyone who's done house calls long enough has a stack of these stories. Maybe it's just me but I kinda like those calls better, they make a good story later.
