The time a customer's pet iguana ruined my mise en place at a pop-up dinner
I was doing a private pop-up dinner party last spring at this guy's house in Austin. I had all my prep laid out on the counter, like 8 little bowls of herbs, garlic, shallots, the whole setup. His pet iguana got loose somehow and jumped right onto the counter and started walking through my shallots. I froze for a second because I didn't know if iguanas bite or what. The owner just laughed and said 'Oh that's just Gizmo, he loves the smell of garlic'. I had to throw away everything he touched and start over in like 20 minutes. Now I always ask hosts if they have any free-roaming pets before I set up my station. Has anyone else had a weird animal mess up their prep?

Iguanas are dumb. Should've charged extra for hazard pay.

Poor guy, that's a nightmare right there. You have my total sympathy, having to scrap all that prep work in a hurry is brutal. Hope you got paid well for that stress.
