Just did the math on how many eggs I've cracked in 10 years
I was cleaning out my old kitchen notebooks and decided to add up the egg orders from my first restaurant job to now. The total came out to over 300,000 eggs. That's a stupid number. It hit me that I've probably spent more time cracking eggs than sleeping in the last decade. It's not a glamorous skill, but that muscle memory is now so deep I can do it one-handed while plating three other things. Who else has a weirdly high count on a basic task that just became part of you?

Honestly, that's just the job. You could do the same math on how many onions you've diced or how many plates you've run. It's a big number, sure, but it's just the repetition of the work, not some special thing.

Three hundred thousand? That's a whole chicken farm.

@finley_lane62 That chicken farm comment is funny but it kinda misses the point, doesn't it? See, the question I have is whether that number is supposed to impress us or if it's just a reflection of how automated the whole process is now. Like, with modern farming equipment and vaccines and all that, three hundred thousand chickens isn't necessarily a huge deal anymore, right? Or is that still a really big operation that takes a ton of manual work? I'm curious what you think, @finley_lane62, because the scale of things has changed so much compared to even a decade or two ago. It's hard to know what's truly impressive and what's just normal these days.
