Hot take: my walk-in cooler died on a Friday night and I lost $900 of product
Friday night, middle of service, the compressor on our walk-in just quit. I walked in around 7pm to grab butter and it felt like a warm closet. Thermometer read 61 degrees. We had a full case of halibut, two cases of chicken, and all our dairy in there. I moved what I could to the reach-ins and a buddy's place down the street, but a lot of it was gone. Anyone dealt with a compressor dying on a busy night and have a better backup plan than "call the guy and pray"?
Did you have any temp alarms on that thing? I threw a cheap wifi sensor in my walk-in after the same thing happened to me, cost like 40 bucks and it texts me if it hits 45. Also get a sheet of plywood and a window AC unit, sounds dumb but it'll hold a walk-in at temp in a pinch.
