Why does nobody talk about how a $12 can of orange spray foam saved my 1890 farmhouse windows
Pulled off the old trim on three windows at my place outside Macon and found gaps you could see daylight through, so I grabbed a can of the cheap orange foam instead of the fancy window stuff. Sprayed it in there and the next morning every gap had swollen up like a loaf of bread, pushed two of the sashes so far out of square I had to pull the trim back off and dig it out with a putty knife. Turns out the regular expanding foam is way too strong for old weight pockets and it can bow the whole frame, you need the low pressure kind or just pack it with backer rod and caulk. Cost me a full weekend and about $80 in wasted trim to learn that one. What do you all use on these old double hungs, or am I the only one who messed this up?
