I drove 4 hours to look at a $15,000 Victorian in Cairo, Illinois and counted 11 raccoons living in the turret
The realtor just shrugged and said "they come with the place," so now I need to know if anyone here has ever successfully evicted a raccoon family without a full gut reno, because I am weirdly still considering it.
I used to figure raccoons were a dealbreaker no matter what. Then I helped a buddy clear a mom and her kits out of an old barn and it took us one weekend, not a full tear down. You seal up every gap bigger than a golf ball, wait till the babies are old enough to walk, then set a one way door so the mom can get out but not back in. The mess is the real fight, not the animals. Raccoon droppings carry some nasty stuff so wear a good mask and gloves when you clean it up. That house is still standing after 11 of them moved in, which tells you the bones are solid. I would get a pest guy to give you a price before you walk away from a 15 grand Victorian.
