Spent $22 on a cast iron skillet at a flea market in Fresno and it beats my $120 nonstick pan
Bought a rusty 10 inch skillet for $22 from a guy in Fresno who said it was his grandma's, took it home, scrubbed it with steel wool and seasoned it in the oven with some cheap canola oil. Now I cook eggs, beans, and cornbread in it almost daily and nothing sticks, while my $120 nonstick pan scratches up and needs replacing. Why do people keep buying fancy coated pans when a beat up piece of iron from a flea market does the job for a fifth of the price?
Man, that pan's grandma probably cooked better meals than my whole kitchen ever will. It's kinda funny how we pay more for stuff that falls apart while the heavy old junk just keeps going forever. Nonstick pans are basically a subscription service at this point.
