Rant: The label on my store brand rice said 4 servings per bag and I got 11 dinners out of it
I was standing in my kitchen on a Tuesday night, bored, and I actually counted. The bag of rice was $1.89 at the grocery store on Elm Street, and the label claimed 4 servings, so about 47 cents a plate. I portioned it out into my usual bowls and got 11 full dinners, which comes out to 17 cents a serving instead of what they put on the bag. Turns out they go by some tiny half cup dry measurement, not what a real hungry person eats with beans and frozen veg on top. I felt a little silly sitting there with a calculator doing math over a bag of rice, but now I want to know if every label is this far off. Has anyone else actually measured out what a bag of dry goods really makes?
