My aunt in Toledo told me to add a potato to stretch the ground beef, and I owe her an apology
I laughed at my aunt when she said to grate a raw potato into my ground beef to make it feed more people, this was back in January when beef was $5.99 a pound and I was feeding four kids on $40 a week. I tried it anyway on a Tuesday, one small potato per pound, and the meatloaf came out moist and nobody noticed a thing. That trick has saved me about $25 a month since then, which does not sound like much until you are scraping change for milk. Now I am wondering what other old kitchen tricks I brushed off as silly, so what is the one tip from a relative that actually worked for you?
