Forget the rent, look at the cost of the ingredients now. That $6 burger was just beef, cheese, and a bun. Now they have to source "artisan" buns, "heritage" beef, and fancy aioli because that's what people expect. The whole food chain got more expensive and fancy, not just the rent.

Wonder if the rent on that corner went up like crazy. Makes you think what the owner's paying just to keep the lights on, right?

Rent's probably less of a problem than all those extra suppliers taking their cut.
