Vent: My rice cooker died mid-meal prep and I'm honestly not that sad about it

Happened last Sunday actually. The little switch thing inside just gave up after 4 years of faithful service (which I guess is fine for a $15 cooker from Big Lots). Everyone I know is always like "you NEED a Zojirushi or nothing" but honestly? I cooked the rice in a regular pot with a lid on low heat and it came out just as good. Maybe I'm crazy but I think we overcomplicate cheap staples sometimes. Anyone else find that the cheap version of something actually works better once you figure out the trick?

Read somewhere that the cheaper rice cookers actually cook hotter and faster, which burns off that extra starch people complain about... makes sense to me honestly. My neighbor has a fancy Zojirushi and her rice always comes out a little mushy compared to mine in a regular pot. Kinda funny how we spend more to get less sometimes, just because it looks nicer on the counter.

Honestly the cheap ones die right when you've figured them out though.
