Unpopular opinion: boxed mac and cheese beats the fancy stuff if you know the trick
I swore off the 89 cent box stuff for years, then a buddy in Cleveland showed me he adds a spoon of mustard and an extra slice of American cheese and it blew my mind for a third of the price. I have made it that way 3 times this month and my kids have not caught on yet. Anyone else got a cheap upgrade that actually works?
A spoon of mustard is clutch but try a pinch of garlic powder and a splash of the pasta water before you drain it, that starch makes it creamy without extra milk. My brother in Toledo does a squirt of yellow mustard plus a dash of hot sauce and nobody can tell it came from a box.
