TIL that bulk bins at my local co-op in Austin are way cheaper than the packaged stuff
I was super skeptical about buying from bulk bins for like a year. I thought it was just for hippies who wanted to feel fancy about their quinoa. But last month I ran out of rice and forgot to grab a bag at the store. My neighbor dragged me to Wheatsville Co-op and made me fill up a bag from their bulk rice section. It was $1.29 a pound versus $2.50 for the same kind in a bag. I got exactly what I needed and didn't have to buy a huge bag I'd never finish. Now I'm a total convert for oatmeal, lentils, and even spices. Has anyone else found a bulk item that saves them a ton?

Bay leaves for pennies" is a good deal if you're not getting stale ones from the discount bin. I buy whole spices in bulk and grind them myself, lasts way longer and tastes fresher. Just store them in a cool dark spot and they'll hold up for months.
