TIL stretching canned tuna with a can of white beans makes way more salad for lunch
I usually eat tuna salad a few times a week for work lunches. But a can is like 3 bucks now and barely fills me up. So last week I tried mashing up a can of white beans I had for 89 cents and mixing it with the tuna, mayo, and celery. It came out to about double the volume for way less per serving. Has anyone else tried bulking up canned meats with cheap beans or lentils?

Mash em up first for sure, it makes a huge difference. If you just toss whole beans in there its like eating tuna with random hard chunks, kinda ruins the whole thing. I found that if I mash em with a fork until theyre almost a paste but still have a few little bits left, it blends right in and you barely notice. Did you try mashing them at all or did you just dump em in straight from the can?

Hold up - you mashed the beans into the tuna? I just mixed mine in whole and it felt a little chunky. Did the texture come out close to regular tuna salad or could you still tell there were beans in there? Ive been trying different ratios and wondering if mashing them first makes a difference.
