The day I stopped buying bagged salad mix changed my grocery bill
I noticed I was spending around $5 a bag for lettuce mixes that went bad in 3 days. Started buying a head of romaine for $1.50 and a red cabbage for $1 and making my own mix - lasts two weeks and tastes better. Anyone else make this switch or am I late to the party?

You said it lasts two weeks and tastes better. My buddy was the one who made the switch a couple years back, and he still won't shut up about it. He kept telling me how his salads never had that weird slimy bag mix taste anymore. I swear he even grew his own lettuce in a bucket on his porch just to double down on it. Anyways, now he calls me every time he sees a bagged salad at the store and laughs.

I'll admit I used to think people were just being dramatic about bagged salads, but your buddy's story actually makes a lot of sense. That weird slimy taste he mentioned is totally real once you start paying attention to it, and I've caught myself noticing it more ever since my own friend convinced me to try loose lettuce instead. Kinda makes you wonder if we've all just been eating mediocre salads out of habit, right?
