The $3 bag of rice I bought is way different than what I got 5 months ago

I grabbed a cheap bag of jasmine rice from the corner market like I always do. But when I cooked it last night, it came out all mushy and clumped together instead of fluffy. I compared it to the old bag I still had in the pantry, and the new grains are shorter and more broken up. This never happened before, I've been buying the same brand for over a year. Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality from budget rice lately?

Did you check if the batch number changed @mary_patel59, cause my dog refuses to eat this new rice.

The 5 pound bag of Great Value jasmine rice I used to get went bad on me around March actually. I noticed the grains were super stubby and broke apart in the pot no matter how little water I used. I ended up switching to the store brand basmati rice instead for about the same price. The basmati stays separate and fluffy every time, even with the cheap stuff. It's been consistent for the last 4 months so I'm sticking with it. Sometimes these companies change their suppliers without telling anyone and you just have to try something new.
