That $40 jar of 'artisanal' pasta sauce was just crushed tomatoes with basil

I bought a small jar of fancy pasta sauce from a farmers market stand for $40 because they said it was slow fermented and hand jarred. Got home, tasted it, and it was literally just canned tomatoes with a few basil leaves stirred in. Has anyone else paid stupid money for something that was basically the $2 store brand version?

Did you ask the seller what made it worth $40? Curious if they actually had a real answer for that.

Oh man that reminds me of this time I was at a flea market and this guy was selling an old beat up guitar pick for $25. I asked him why and he dead serious said "because it was touched by a ghost." I just stood there holding it for like 20 seconds waiting for him to laugh but nope. He just stared at me with this blank face like he was trying to sell me a haunted object. I bought a $3 coffee mug instead and walked away confused.
