That $30 meal kit box was a total scam for my budget

I caved and bought one of those meal kit boxes after seeing a Facebook ad, but the portions were tiny and I still had to buy extra veggies to make it fill me up. Ended up spending $12 more than my usual grocery run for three boring dinners that took an hour to cook. Has anyone else found a way to make these things actually worth the cash?

Does anyone actually save money with these things, or is the whole business model just banking on people like us feeling too guilty to cancel? I tried a couple and honestly felt like I was paying for the privilege of doing dishes.

Wait, did you try the one from that company with the green boxes? I feel like some of those meal kit services are way better about portion sizes than others, but it depends on where you live maybe. Idk, I usually have to add a can of beans or some frozen broccoli to stretch them out, which kinda defeats the purpose of paying for convenience. Honestly, I think the trick is to look for the ones that give you bigger protein portions or offer "extra veggie" upgrades, but even then it's a gamble. I stopped using them altogether after I realized I could just buy a rotisserie chicken and frozen stir-fry mix for less than half the price.
