Talking to my landlord about my grocery list changed my meal planning

I was complaining to my landlord in Akron about how my food budget kept ballooning, and she casually mentioned she plans dinners around whatever's marked down at the local market each Tuesday. She said she never buys anything full price unless it's beans or rice, and that simple rule made me realize I was ignoring the clearance rack completely. Has anyone else built a weekly menu from discounted meat and veg, or is this just a landlord secret?

My first attempt at the clearance rack was a full cart of ground beef marked 50% off because the sell by date was that day. Got home, realized my freezer was already stuffed with old frozen pizzas, and had to cook three pounds of taco meat at midnight just to save eight bucks. Landlord wisdom is real though, that Tuesday markdown thing works if you actually check the dates and don't hoard like a raccoon with a Costco card. Now I plan meals around whatever's dying in the cooler and my grocery bill dropped way down. Just wish someone had told me this before I ate my weight in sad clearance cookies.
