Shoutout to the lady at the Aldi on 5th who told me to stop buying chicken breasts and get whole legs instead
She saw me staring at the $4.29/lb breasts last month and just said "hon, the legs are $1.19 and they taste better anyway." I figured she was just being nice. Nope. I've done the math three trips in a row now and I'm saving about $14 a week on protein for my family of four. Roasted them with salt and paprika the first night, picked the rest for soup the second. My kids didn't even ask where the white meat went. Lesson learned: talk to the people in the store, they know stuff. What's the best tip a stranger at the grocery store ever gave you?
Had a guy at Costco point me to the whole pork loin in the back instead of the pre-cut chops. He told me to cut it myself and freeze what I don't use, said it's the same meat for half the price. Took me maybe ten minutes with a knife and I got like eight meals out of one piece. My wife thought I lost my mind at first but now she's the one asking why I didn't do this years ago. Same deal as your chicken legs, the folks who shop there every week just know things the rest of us don't.
