Shoutout to that $10 rice cooker that finally gave up after 5 years
My cheap rice cooker from the dollar store died right in the middle of making dinner last Tuesday, rice was half cooked and sticky mess everywhere. Turned out the heating plate cracked from all that cheap metal expanding and contracting over time. Anyone got a budget rice cooker that actually lasted more than a couple years?

Oh man, your story totally reminds me of mine. I had this cheap rice cooker from some discount store too and it literally caught on fire one night while making rice. I mean, it was just a tiny little flame that went out quick but still, scared the heck out of me. The heat plate just cracked and started smoking. After that I ended up getting one of those Aroma brand ones for like 20 bucks on sale and it's been going strong for almost 4 years now. Idk if that's the best option out there but it's way better than the dollar store junk. I think you just gotta spend a little more than rock bottom price to get something that won't die on you.

Man, @tarajenkins , you're right on with this. It's like the same thing with everything these days, not just rice cookers. I swear there's this weird spot where if you pay too little, it's basically a fire hazard, but not even the expensive stuff is always better either. I got a cheap blender once that vibrated right off the counter on high speed. It's like the world just accepted that we all gotta gamble on small appliances now. You don't need top of the line, just a little above the bottom of the barrel and you're usually fine for a few years. It's wild how that tiny bit of extra cash makes the difference between something that works and something that scares you.
