Rant: A guy at the food bank in Spokane argued that dried beans are a waste of time compared to canned, and now I'm torn.
Honestly, he said the extra hour of cooking and soaking isn't worth the 75 cents you save per pound, but my budget says every penny counts, so what's your take on the bean debate?

Look, that guy is missing the whole point. Dried beans aren't just about the money, they taste way better and you control the salt. Soaking is passive time, just dump them in water before bed. @rose_bailey calls it paying for sanity, but for me, opening a can of mushy beans is what hurts my soul. My kitchen, my rules, and my cheap, tasty beans win every time.

Ever think about the time cost? I used to soak beans overnight, but with three kids, that extra hour of cooking is a luxury I don't have. Now I see his point, even if the canned ones cost more.

Used to be a total bean snob about the dried ones. Time really does become a different kind of currency when life gets busy. Paying for the can is just paying for your sanity back sometimes. Makes perfect sense when you frame it that way.
