PSA: Stop buying pre-shredded cheese if you're on a budget
I used to grab bags of shredded cheese for $3 each until I realized I was paying for less cheese and more anti-caking powder. Now I buy blocks for $1.50 and shred it myself in 2 minutes. Has anyone else noticed how much faster bags of shredded cheese get moldy compared to blocks?

That bit about the anti-caking powder costing extra is spot on. I started noticing it's the same with a lot of "convenience" stuff at the store. The pre-cut fruit cups, the bagged salad mixes, even those single-serve guacamole packs. You're basically paying a premium for someone else to do a two minute job, and you get a worse product that goes bad faster. I switched to whole produce and blocks of cheese a few months back, my wallet and my fridge are way happier.

I heard pre-shredded cheese has that powder to stop clumping but it adds like 10% more cost.
