Overheard a guy at the bus stop say he spends $25 a week on groceries in Manchester and I need to know how
I was waiting for the 101 bus downtown yesterday and this older dude was on his phone telling someone he feeds himself for $25 a week. Said he buys a bag of potatoes, a dozen eggs, a head of cabbage, some oats, and whatever marked down meat he finds at Market Basket on Sunday mornings. That's like $3.50 a day. Is that even possible without eating the same thing every single meal? I'm spending about $60 a week on just myself and I thought I was being careful. Anyone here actually pull off a $25 weekly budget without hating your life?

Honestly though, is it really that serious to question his grocery budget? I mean, maybe the guy just doesn't eat much or doesn't care about variety. $25 a week sounds rough but if you're eating oats for breakfast, potato and cabbage for lunch, and a tiny piece of meat with more potato for dinner, you could probably do it. Plus, idk about you but I've seen those $5 rotisserie chickens at Market Basket that can stretch for days if you're creative. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people act like eating cheap means you're miserable when really some folks just don't mind plain food. Probably doesn't help that we're all paying for snacks and drinks and seasonings he probably skips entirely.

Tried pretty much that exact list when I was between jobs last year and it works if you're okay with no snacks or fancy coffee. Honestly got used to it after two weeks and didn't feel miserable, just boring.
