Overheard a guy at the bus stop roasting $8 guac and it stuck with me

So I'm waiting for the 42 bus in Austin last Tuesday and this dude is telling his friend he spent $8 on guac at some taco joint and it barely filled a thimble. He was half laughing but I could tell he was mad. It got me thinking about how I make a whole bowl of guac for like $2 using 2 avocados from the HEB reduced rack, a lime, and some salt. That one comment made me realize how much I take for granted that I know these little workarounds. My trick is I mash the avocados with a fork and add chopped onion from the dollar store, takes 5 minutes max. Anyone else got a go-to cheap swap that makes you side-eye restaurant prices hard?
