My rice cooker died mid-cook and I had to finish on the stove

Was making a big batch of rice for the week last Tuesday. I put in the rice and water, hit the button, and about 10 minutes later it just clicked off and went cold. I was stuck with a pot of half-cooked grains and a dead machine. Finished it on the stove with a lid and some extra water. Turned out okay, but the texture was a little off. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget fail at the worst time? What did you do to salvage the meal?

I gotta disagree with "turned out okay" because rice that comes out mushy on one side and crunchy on the other is just sad. I think you'd have been better off just starting over from scratch with fresh water and a pot.

Does your friend happen to be my buddy Mike? He tried to "save" a batch of rice once by adding more water halfway through and ended up with a pot that looked like wallpaper paste with little hard pebbles in it.
