My neighbor swore that freezing leftover pasta sauce in ice cube trays was a genius move
Last month, I tried it with a big batch of marinara, but I forgot to label the bag and now I keep mistaking the frozen cubes for chocolate in my coffee. Has anyone else ended up with weird pantry mix-ups from bulk prepping?

Dude I actually read about this exact thing in some food science blog a few months back. They said freezing sauce in ice cube trays is fine but you gotta use a sharpie or those colored silicone trays so you don't end up with mystery cubes. I almost did the same thing with pesto cubes and chicken broth cubes in my freezer last week. The article also mentioned that if you freeze anything with garlic or onions, the smell seeps through bags and taints other ice cubes. So now I keep a dedicated "savory" section in my freezer with a note taped to the door. Sounds dumb but it saves me from accidentally putting spaghetti sauce in my morning smoothie again.

Three coffee cubes later and my iced latte had a surprise garlic kick.

Woah hold on, garlic coffee cubes? That's wild but honestly I bet someone out there makes a garlic infused coffee on purpose. Like there's that whole savory coffee trend with salt and butter and stuff so maybe garlic was just one step too far. I could totally see some hipster cafe in Portland trying to pass it off as an umami thing but they'd probably call it something fancy like "savory brew" and charge eight bucks for it. But yeah your surprise garlic kick probably just means you grabbed the wrong bag of ice cubes from the freezer, I've done that before with frozen pizza rolls mixed in with my regular ice and it was not a good time.
