My mom told me my spaghetti sauce was too watery and she was right

I've been making spaghetti sauce for years just dumping in canned tomatoes and garlic and calling it done. She watched me cook last Sunday and said 'you need to simmer that down or you're just eating tomato soup.' So I let it bubble for 45 minutes on low and it came out thick and rich. Does anyone actually simmer their sauce until it reduces or am I the only one who was skipping this step?

Yeah simmering is basically the whole trick. I learned that the hard way too.

My friend Jenna ran into this exact thing about two years ago. She made spaghetti sauce for her boyfriend's family and his grandma took one bite and asked if she forgot to cook it. Jenna was so mad but the grandma was right, it was basically just warm canned tomatoes. So she started setting a timer for 45 minutes minimum every time she makes sauce now. She told me the first time she actually reduced it properly her boyfriend ate three helpings and asked what she did different. That's the moment she became a believer in simmering it down.
