Is buying dried beans actually cheaper than canned? My cousin says no
My cousin in Phoenix swears canned beans are the better deal once you count gas and time, but I've been soaking dried pintos for years and getting 5 meals out of a $2 bag. He showed me his receipt from 2 weeks ago and the math was close, but I think he's ignoring how much sodium you're paying for. Anyone else done the real cost breakdown on this, or am I just stubborn?

Quit overthinking this. If you like soaking beans and have the time, keep doing it. Nobody is forcing your cousin to boil water. The whole gas and time argument only matters if youre eating beans every single day, and even then were talking maybe a few bucks a month difference. Youre both right, so who cares. The sodium thing is real if your doctor told you to watch salt, but otherwise canned beans are fine to rinse and most people cant taste the difference anyway. Stop acting like either option is a moral victory and just buy whatever beans you feel like buying that week.
