I finally figured out why my rice was always mushy
I used to think I was just bad at making rice. Every batch came out sticky and clumpy, no matter what I did. Then a friend visited from Thailand and watched me cook. She asked why I was using the measuring cup that came with my rice cooker. Turns out, that plastic cup is not a standard cup. It is smaller, like 3/4 of a real measuring cup. So I was using way too much water for the amount of rice. Now I just use my regular dry measuring cup and it comes out perfect every time. Has anyone else been tricked by those little rice cooker cups?

Yeah I always thought that little cup was just a standard measuring cup. I gotta look into that now.

Ngl I had the exact same problem for years until I finally measured the water with my finger instead. I put my index finger on top of the rice and fill water up to the first knuckle. It sounds made up but it works every single time for white rice. The little cup thing makes sense though because I always wondered why my rice was so soupy when I followed the lines in the cooker. Kinda wild how something so small can totally mess up a dish.
