Hot take: frozen veggies beat fresh for cheap stir-fry
I had a chat with my neighbor Carol last Tuesday who's been cooking on a budget for 40 years, and she said frozen vegetables are actually more nutritious than fresh because they're picked at peak ripeness. She showed me how a $2 bag of frozen broccoli and bell peppers makes a better stir-fry than the $6 fresh ones I was buying that would wilt in three days. Has anyone else tried swapping fresh for frozen in your weeknight meals?

Picked at peak ripeness" - even frozen spinach keeps better than fresh in my fridge.

That "picked at peak ripeness" thing is just marketing copy though. Fresh spinach from the store, even if it's a little wilted, still has better texture and flavor than frozen. Frozen spinach turns into a sad, watery mess the second it thaws. I'd rather have a slightly sad bag of fresh spinach than a bag of frozen stuff that's been sitting in my freezer for months. You can always revive limp spinach with a quick soak in cold water anyway.
