Did you know bagged beans are actually fresher than canned?

I was at a food bank in Cleveland last week and a volunteer told me that dried beans from a bag are usually 6 months fresher than canned ones. She said most canned beans sit in warehouses for over a year before hitting shelves. That blew my mind since I always grabbed cans for convenience. Anyone else stop buying canned after learning this?

My buddy's a sous chef and he swears canned beans are actually picked at peak ripeness and processed within hours, while bagged beans could be sitting in a warehouse for months before they even get bagged. Plus all that soaking and boiling time for dried beans kills the convenience factor for me.
