Can we talk about my rice cooker that died halfway through dinner

Honestly my cheap rice cooker gave up on me last Tuesday right when I had a pot of black beans simmering on the stove. I was about 10 minutes away from serving and it just stopped making steam and went cold. I had to dump all the rice into a pan and finish it on the burner which took another 20 minutes. The rice came out a little mushy on one side and crunchy on the other not great. It was a $15 model I picked up at a discount store about two years ago so I guess I got my money's worth. I ended up eating the beans over toast that night instead. Has anyone else had a kitchen gadget die at the worst possible moment?

Wait, you had to nuke it in three batches? That sounds like a disaster movie for your dinner plans lol. Two years out of a $15 cooker is actually amazing though, I bet you could get another one of those and it'll last just as long. My old one died while I was making rice for a potluck one time, I feel your pain on having to improvise with a pan on the stove.

My $20 rice cooker died on me a few years ago mid-steam too lol, it just clicked off and started cooling down while I had company over. I had to microwave the rice in like 3 batches and it turned into this weird gluey paste that nobody wanted to eat. I tried to salvage it by adding butter and salt but it was just sad sticky goo on everyone's plates. That thing lasted me about a year before it quit so I guess you got the better deal with two years out of a $15 one.
