Bought a $4 bag of lentils on a whim, now I feed myself for under $15 a week
I used to grab takeout like 4 nights a week because I told myself cooking was too expensive and time consuming. Last month I was in the bulk aisle and grabbed a random bag of brown lentils, figured worst case I wasted four bucks. First attempt was bland and mushy, but I looked up a simple recipe with onion, garlic, and a can of crushed tomatoes. That one pot made 5 huge servings that froze fine. Now I do a batch every Sunday, throw it over rice or toast, and my grocery bill dropped way more than I expected. Anyone else have a cheap ingredient that completely changed their eating habits?
