Been doing the 'buy in bulk' thing forever until I ran the numbers on my family's rice and beans stash

Wait, did you actually weigh it all out or just ballpark it? You gotta be careful with rice and beans cause they expand so much when cooked. I remember storing a massive bag of pinto beans and totally miscalculating how much my family could actually eat before they went bad. Curious what your final numbers looked like on waste vs savings.

I actually weighed everything out like a weirdo, haha. @hernandez.morgan I had 10 lbs of dry pinto beans and thought it would last my small household a year, but after cooking they made like 30 lbs of food and we got sick of them in three months. Ended up tossing about 2 lbs of dry beans that got weevils because I stored them wrong in a damp basement. Savings were decent upfront, maybe $15, but between the wasted beans and my pride, I'd call it a wash.
