Bagged rice over boxed rice, finally saw the light

I used to grab those 2 dollar instant rice boxes every week because they seemed easy. Then my neighbor in Austin showed me her 20 pound bag of jasmine rice that cost 14 bucks and cooked up fluffier than anything I'd made. After doing the math on servings, I figured out I was paying almost 4 times as much for less food. Anyone else made the switch and noticed their meals taste better without trying harder?

benreed nailed it with the texture thing, that boxed stuff always came out gummy for me too. I switched to a big bag of basmati a few months back and the difference in my weeknight bowls is wild, it actually holds its shape and doesn't clump up. Plus I found this trick where I rinse it a couple times before cooking, takes ten extra seconds but makes it even fluffier. Now I'm just working through the bag before it gets stale, which honestly hasn't been a problem since we eat it almost every day.

Damn straight. Once you go bagged you never go back. I used to think the boxes were fine until I actually tasted real rice next to it, night and day. The boxed stuff always comes out kinda sticky and weird, like it's been through a blender or something. Now I just throw a cup of jasmine in the pot and it's done in twenty minutes, no fancy steps. My tacos and stir fries got way better without me doing anything different. Honestly the only downside is finding cabinet space for the big bag, but that's a good problem to have.
