Am I the only one who thought dried beans were a total waste of time until my roommate in college made a pot of black beans that cost like 75 cents and tasted better than any can?

I was convinced the overnight soak and long cook wasn't worth it, but after tasting hers with just some garlic, a bay leaf, and salt, I've been making a big batch every Sunday for the past two months to use in lunches all week.

Every Sunday" sounds like a huge commitment for beans.

Right? I mean it's wild how everything feels like a subscription now. You can't just buy coffee, you have to join their monthly club. Same with streaming, your veggies, even socks. Feels like we're renting our whole lives.

My roommate did the same thing with lentils and it completely changed my week. @ryanpatel is right that it feels like a commitment, but that's the whole point. We're so used to paying for convenience, like those meal kits that show up at your door, that doing one simple thing for yourself feels huge. It's not about the beans, it's about breaking that cycle of having everything done for you for a monthly fee.
