Unpopular opinion: taking the max cash out instead of the bare minimum was the right call for me
For years I pulled out just enough to cover the project, like a $12k kitchen job on my place in Sacramento, because I figured less debt was always smarter. My brother in law talked me into taking closer to $40k last year and keeping the extra in savings, and honestly having that cushion saved me when my truck died. People here seem to push the idea that you should only pull what you need, but in my view the closing costs are the same either way and the money sits there doing nothing if you don't use it. Anyone else go bigger on the draw and regret it, or did it work out fine?
