TIL my bank teller laughed at me for trying to cash out refi a coffee mug

Was at Chase in Nashville last Tuesday and asked about a cash out refi on my house, but somehow ended up holding my favorite mug up to the counter and the teller goes 'sir that's not how this works' before I even realized what I was doing.

Dude that's hilarious, I did something similar at Wells Fargo last year. Walked up to the counter holding a toaster and asked if I could get a cash out refi on it.

My husband did something similar at our credit union a few years back. He walked up to the teller with a half-eaten bag of chips and asked if they offered refinancing on snack purchases. The poor girl just stared at him for a good ten seconds before she cracked a smile. She actually played along and told him they only did cash out refis on full bags, not opened ones. We still laugh about that when we pass by that credit union. Sometimes you just have to lighten things up at the bank, you know?
