Dropped $450 on a home appraisal before my cash out refi and it nuked the whole deal
Two sides to this one. I paid $450 for an appraisal in Reno because my lender said it would help me pull out $60k for a kitchen remodel. It came back at $385k when I needed $410k to hit the 80% LTV, so that money went straight in the trash and I got nothing. But my neighbor swears the $450 he spent got his value bumped up $25k because he did some cheap landscaping first. So was the appraisal a smart move or just a gamble? Anyone else eat the fee and get nothing?
