Why I think power stretchers are overrated for anything under 40 yards
A guy on a job in Bakersfield last month watched me finish a 30 yard berber stretch with a knee kicker and said I was doing it wrong. He swears by his power stretcher for every single room no matter the size.
Here is my thing. On small rooms, closets, halls, anything under 40 yards, I can get a tighter, cleaner finish faster with a kicker and a good stair tool. I have been doing it 11 years and my seams hold up just fine. The power stretcher comes out for big open rooms where my knees would give out, sure. But dragging that thing into a 10x12 bedroom is just extra setup time and more chance to tear something.
He kept going on about how the old guys all say power stretcher or nothing. I get it for big jobs. But telling a guy he is wrong on a closet is a stretch, pun intended.
Anybody else still lean on the kicker for small stuff or am I the odd one out here?
