Watched a crew in Denver ruin 2 rolls of carpet on a single staircase
I was at a job site in Denver last Tuesday dropping off some tools and saw these guys trying to carpet a curved staircase. They kept cutting the pieces too short on the bullnose and by the time they got to the third step they had wasted over 60 square feet of a nice nylon plush. I wanted to say something but it wasn't my gig you know? The worst part was they used a dull knife so the edges were all fuzzy and frayed. I've never tried a curved staircase myself but this made me wonder if there's a trick for cutting those angles without blowing through material. Has anyone here figured out a foolproof method for staircases with a curve?

Watching that must've been like seeing someone try to cut a pizza with a butter knife. A curved staircase is already a nightmare, but using a dull blade on top of it? Might as well just set that carpet on fire and save everyone the time. Pro tip from what I've heard: you gotta make a pattern out of heavy paper first, fit it to the curve like a tailor does a suit, then transfer it to the carpet. But hey, at least they gave the dumpster a nice new outfit.

Think it happens everywhere. Dudes spend way too much time trying to save a buck on cheap tools or rushed planning, then waste twice what they saved. Just saw a guy at the hardware store spend twenty minutes eyeballing a cut instead of just measuring once.
