TIL the hard way about power stretcher pins on a gutted kitchen

I was doing a full tear out in a remodel over in Clackamas, new pad and everything, and the floor had that old waffle pattern from years of worn backing. I set my power stretcher, gave it a good yank, and the pins just slid across the surface like it was ice. No grip at all, and I actually slid the whole back half of the room before I caught it, nearly took out a base cabinet. Turns out the previous installers left a ton of glue residue from the old tackless, and my pins were too dull to bite through it. So I stopped after that first pull, grabbed a wire brush and some solvent, scrubbed the whole floor line where I needed to stretch, then swapped to a fresh set of pins I keep in the van. It added maybe 30 minutes, but the stretch held perfect and no wrinkles after the customer walked it. Now I'm wondering, do you guys carry spare pins sized for different subfloors, or do you just go over the residue and hope for the best?
