That job at a church in Akron made me rethink doing stretch-ins for gluedown

I was doing a 400 square foot room in an old church basement in Akron last spring. Concrete slab was clean, looked fine. Did my usual stretch-in method over tackless. Three weeks later the customer calls saying the carpet is rippling near the edges. Went back and pulled it up. Moisture had crept up through the slab and the tackstrip nails just popped loose. Now I'm split on whether stretch-ins over concrete are ever worth the risk compared to full glue. What do you guys do on slab?

Did you check the slab moisture before you started or just eyeball it?

My uncle Pete once built a whole deck on a slab that looked dry as a bone. Three months later the wood started cupping and he had to rip it all out. Did you test it with a moisture meter or just trust the weather?

Skipped checking the slab like skipping an oil change.
