Showerthought: I just read that a standard roll of carpet padding is 450 square feet, which is way more than I ever guessed.
I was looking at the spec sheet for a new batch of rebond pad and the total coverage number caught me off guard, so has anyone else had a fact about materials that made you double-check your usual math?

Yeah, that padding coverage always gets me. I once ordered a roll for a 12x15 room thinking I'd have a little left over, but I ended up having enough to do the whole upstairs hallway too. It's one of those things you don't really grasp until you're unrolling it and it just keeps going. Makes you re-check your floor plans for sure.

Honestly @casey393, my roll always comes up short.

Back when I first started doing flooring work I always assumed a roll of padding was like 300 square feet max, just based on how heavy and bulky the roll felt. But my buddy laid it out for me one day and I sat there watching it unroll across the whole living room and then some, I had to check the label myself. Turns out 450 square feet is totally right, it's just denser than you'd expect so it feels smaller on the roll. That math really changed how I plan my rooms now, I don't underestimate the coverage anymore.
