Shoutout to the old guy who showed me a better seaming iron trick

Was doing a big living room install last tuesday in an old house and this retired installer stopped by to watch. He showed me how to hold the iron at a 45 degree angle instead of flat, said I was burning the backing too fast. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them a tip that actually worked better than the standard way?

@charles919 nailed it. Those old timers have been burning backing and making mistakes for thirty years before they figured out the angle thing. The real gold is never in the official training video, it's in the guy who's been doing it since before power stretchers had quick release.
