Padding density fights on every estimate I write
My last job had a super dense pad that made the carpet install a real struggle. Some crews push for it saying it lasts longer, but others skip it to avoid stretch problems and callbacks. Where do you stand on this constant battle?

Totally agree with @adam_nguyen7 on finding that middle ground. I've had good luck with a 6 pound pad too, it just makes the install go smooth.

That "constant battle" you mentioned is so real. I've seen jobs get messed up from both too much and too little pad.

Yeah @evan400, that battle is no joke. I mean, after dealing with torn carpet from thin pad and crazy stretch fights from thick pad, I always pick a middle density now. It might not last forever like the super dense stuff, but it saves so much trouble during install. On a recent job, we went with a 7 or 8 pound pad and it was just right. The carpet laid flat without forcing it, and the customer still got good cushion. So yeah, finding that balance is key for me.
