Old carpet saw blade trick saved me on a job in Nashville last week
I was installing a thick berber in a big living room. My blade was getting dull halfway through the second bedroom. I didn't have a spare. Guy I was working with told me to flip the blade over and run it backwards for a few cuts. I thought he was messing with me. But I tried it. It actually cleaned up the frayed edges and bought me another hour of clean cuts. Has anyone else ever done that? Or is there a better way to squeeze more life out of a dull blade without stopping to sharpen?

Flipping it backwards worked for me on a shag rug once too.

Have you tried switching up the direction you vacuum too? I had a high pile rug that kept getting those weird matted lines no matter what I did. Running the vacuum backwards a few times actually helped fluff it back up, especially around the edges where it gets pushed down the most. Just don't press too hard or it'll mess up the fibers even worse. Took me a couple tries to get it looking right again.
