I think power stretchers are overkill on most residential jobs
Finished a 3 room rent house in Waco last Tuesday, about 90 yards of cheap poly, and I knocked it all in with a knee kicker and a mini stretcher in under 6 hours with zero wrinkles or buckles. Every guy on the crew swears you need a power stretcher on anything over 40 yards, but on tight weave poly over fresh pad I just don't see the payoff for hauling that thing in and out of a truck. Am I nuts here or are we all just carrying extra weight because that's how the old timers did it?
Old timers used what they had and yeah some of it still works fine. But the flip side is power stretchers exist because knee kickers alone will bite you on certain carpets, berbers and anything with a backing that wants to fight back. On cheap poly over fresh pad you can get away with murder, different story when the next house has tight weave and old pad.
