Guy at the supply house said to backroll this Berber, and he was right

Picked up a big roll of Berber for a rental unit off West 25th last Tuesday, and the guy loading me up said to backroll it before I even cut it. I figured he was just talking to hear himself, but I did it anyway since the roll had been sitting on its side for a while. Laid it out Wednesday morning and it went down flat with no bubbles or wandering edges, which never happens with this stuff. I skipped the backroll on the last Berber job back in March and fought ripples all afternoon, so I should have known better. How are you all handling Berber straight off the truck, or do you always let it relax first?

Watched a buddy of mine try the same thing last month with a roll that had been sitting upright in his garage for two weeks. He skipped the backroll, figured gravity had already done the work for him, and ended up chasing wrinkles for an hour and a half in a bedroom closet. Wound up pulling the whole thing back up and rolling it backwards by hand in the hallway, which took even longer. Now he backrolls everything, even if it just came off the truck that morning.
